Axisymmetric gravity-capillary standing waves on the surface of a fluid

نویسندگان

چکیده

We conduct an experimental study of axisymmetric gravity-capillary standing waves generated by a vertically vibrating ring on fluid surface. Different regimes are highlighted at the basin center: linear, nonlinear, and ejection regimes. For moderate forcing, spatial profile breaks up-down symmetry as predicted third-order nonlinear theory, whereas for stronger maximum height reached gravity-wave crest, center, is found to increase linearly with its wavelength, consequence saturation steepness.

Quasi-periodic standing wave solutions of gravity-capillary water waves

We prove the existence and the linear stability of Cantor families of small amplitude time quasi-periodic standing wave solutions (i.e. periodic and even in the space variable x) of a 2-dimensional ocean with infinite depth under the action of gravity and surface tension.

The period - doubling of gravity - capillary waves

In this paper an attempt is made to explain the period-doubling of wind-generated gravity-capillary waves as observed in the experimentofChoi (1977). It is conjectured that period-doubling is closely related to the phenomenon of second-harmonic resonance. In order to obtain a simple dynamical model, results of McGoldrick (1970) and Simmons (1969) are extended to include the effect of wind input...

Overturned internal capillary-gravity waves

A vortex sheet formulation of irrotational, incompressible Euler flow is used to compute periodic traveling waves at the interface between two constant-density, two-dimensional fluids, including waves with overturned crests. Branches of traveling waves are computed via numerical continuation, which are jointly continuous in the physical parameters: Bond number, Atwood number and mean shear. Glo...
